ESP 3002 Billie Holiday / The Lady Lives Vol.1

Acorn Hill House, Krumville, NY 12447

ESP 3002
(ESP 3002 + ESP 3005)

Now here’s a rare one, as far as I know. ESP released a couple albums of Billie Holiday broadcasts, but they chose to release this one in tandem with a compilation of artists from other ESP albums. And the comp was supposed in 3D stereo. I don’t know if this was a ruse to get you to blow up your stereo, but the liner notes encourage you to attach a third speaker to the terminals of your amplifier for 3D listening. I never did, but don’t let me stop you!
The album is listed as ESP 3002. Side one of the Billie side is My Man, Miss Brown to You, Keeps On a’ Rainin’, Lover Man, I Cover the Waterfront, All of Me
Side two: You’re My Thrill, He’s Funny That way, Billie’s Blues, Miss Brown to You, My Man, Tenderly.
Sources for the songs include Armed Forces Radio, The Eddie Condon Show, Art Ford Show, Apollo, Storyville. The versions of My Man are especially dark w/different lyrics than the Columbia version.
The comp has 48 tracks, some lasting only a few seconds. In fact, Tuli Kupferberg of the Fugs pops up between a lot of tracks sometimes reading just one line of a poem. Other artists include CHARLES MANSON, Pearls Before Swine, Albert Ayler, Octopus, Cromagnon, Patty Waters and Sun Ra. You rarely get full songs. Email me for the whole list of songs.
